Budhua, was reading his annual appraisal letter . He was given 11% increment. He was told that in spite of bad market conditions, less projects and uncertainty, he was still given the above average increment.

He was also told that he really did good job last year and management was pleased with his performance. But, at the same time, his boss wanted him to grow in other aspects also — leadership, people management etc.

Budhua agreed with the increment , though puzzled, committed himself again that he would work on the new points advised by him. He told himself ,” ये भी कर लेंगे | कौन सी बड़ी बात है | ” and rushed back to his home.

His wife was happy to see him and his parents were glad as they were also eager to hear the news. He told his father about his increment. Budhua’s father said, “बहुत भड़िया बेटा | आज कल तो नौकरी ही नहीं मिल रही | तुम्हे तो फर्स्ट क्लास इंक्रीमेंट मिला है | ऎसे ही मेहनत करते रहो | “ 

Budhua’s mother folded her hands and thanked the almighty. His wife just looked at his face. She could read what was there in his mind. Small tears came out from her eye and then she immediately went to kitchen and got her self busy in the work.

Jalebi, same day, was very delighted. He read his appraisal letter and jumped and sad ,”Man!! that’s what I knew”. His friends came around and congratulated him for the 50% increment. 

One of them said,” कमाल कर दिया यार | बॉस तो बहुत खुश है तेरे से” Jalebi  replied,” होगा क्यों नहीं , मेरे बिना कोई काम हो सकता है क्या ? मैं एक दिन छुट्टी लें लूँ तो कुछ सब काम अटक जाता है | ” Another friend said,”You deserve this” . Jalebi invited everybody for a party,” Let’s have party today. Boss will also come.”

Jalebi called his father, “Dad ,Your son got 50% increment”. Father got little puzzled and thought for a while. He then said,” Good , very good. When are you coming home for the party”. Jalebi was not eager to return and answered ,”अरे पापा आज बॉस को तो खुश कर दूँ | उसने ही तो किया है सब कुछ | यहाँ तो एवरेज इंक्रीमेंट 7% हुआ है | सेटिंग ही सब कुछ है |”

Father said ,” Must be tough for others.”  Jalebi replied, ” अरे पापा , it is all about overall personality , you have to build repo around your Boss and management. 12 घंटे कुर्सी पर बैठने वालों का और रात दिन घिसने वालों का भी 11% हुआ है | “

Father,”Oh will wait for you , माँ को डॉक्टर के पास ले जाना है “. Jalebi was not getting what his father wanted ,”Will take her tomorrow. Delay in one day does not matter. You take the appointment for tomorrow and tell Mona I will be late”

Jalebi : 50%

Average: 7%

Budhua : 11%
